Essex Lighting Company – Annual Product Catalogues (2002–2004)

Over a three-year period, I was commissioned by Essex Lighting Company to design and produce their annual printed product catalogues. Each catalogue—spanning between 100 and 200 pages—served as a comprehensive showcase of the company’s lighting product range, aimed at distributors, retailers, and designers across the UK.
My responsibilities encompassed the full graphic production process, from initial image preparation to final layout:

Image Management: Collected, organized, and processed hundreds of product photographs for each edition. This included resizing, colour correction, background cleanup, and ensuring consistent presentation standards across product categories.

Data Coordination: Cross-referenced and verified product information such as technical specifications, pricing, and descriptions to ensure accuracy and clarity.

Layout & Design: Using Macromedia Freehand, I designed visually structured catalogue pages that balanced functionality with brand identity. The layouts were carefully planned to enhance readability and visual appeal while accommodating large volumes of technical data and imagery.

Production Workflow: Worked closely with the printing team to prepare press-ready files, manage proofs, and ensure quality consistency across all editions.
This recurring project required meticulous attention to detail, disciplined organization, and efficient handling of large-scale content. It also strengthened my ability to integrate visual design with technical precision—key skills that continue to inform my approach to this day in projects I undertake.
