About Sven

Personal Statement

Professional Summary

I am an interdisciplinary designer and educator based in Cambridge, UK, working with clients locally and remotely worldwide. Over more than 20 years I have worked across advertising, multimedia and higher education. Today I work freelance on web design and front-end development, UI/UX, 3D visualisation and print.

That range is deliberate. I have built websites and brand identities in commercial studios, produced 3D visualisation and heritage digitisation work, and spent much of my career teaching design, including as an Assistant Professor at Nanyang Technological University in Singapore and, more recently, as a part-time lecturer at Anglia Ruskin University in Cambridge. Teaching keeps my practice current, and it means I can explain the reasoning behind a decision rather than simply hand over files.

Clients tend to find me when a project sits between disciplines: a site that needs to be properly built rather than assembled from a page builder, a brand identity that has to hold up in print and on screen, or a space that needs to be seen before it is made. I am available for freelance projects in Cambridge and remotely.

Personal Summary

Outside client work I am drawn to games, history, heritage and culture. I have lived and worked across the UK, into Europe and around Asia, and the instinct that takes me somewhere new and works out how it fits together is much the same one I bring to a design problem.

I stay involved in the communities around my work. In Singapore I served as Chapter President of the VR/AR Association, and in Malta I volunteered as a 3D designer with Heritage Malta and on digitisation at the Notarial Archives. I like projects with some history or curiosity behind them, and I am always happy to talk about the strange corners of a brief.
